Fun Monday : Vacations

Our Hostess this week is Alison and here is her assignment: Vacations...this is the time of year when most of us go on vacations. Show us and/or tell us about your favorite vacation - where you went, what you did, etc. Pictures would be great. Let's all take a trip around a the world via our FM friends!!
As a family we have had 2 wonderful vacations other than all the other years we have gone camping. Not to make the camping trips sound bad or anything, because we love to do that. But these 2 particular vacations were kinda special.
(I can't give you pictures of these trips, because my scanner will not work. I can give you the links to give you and idea.)
7 years ago we won a trip to the Smoky Mountains of Gatlinburg, Tennessee. We stayed in a very fancy hotel that had an indoor swimming pool, a gym, a spa, and a sauna. Our room was as huge as most apartments. We had the time of our lives! We did get out of the hotel a little and checked out Dolly Wood and a few other wonderful sites, but our kids had more fun at the hotel.
Our other wonderful trip was last year. I wasn't happy about it at first, because it was not our planned trip, but it landed up being Super Fantastic! Last February I had booked us a hotel in Orlando, Fl for 4 days and 3 nights, and then I had booked a hotel a little further down in Florida on a beach. I also was going to get to meet Amy from the foil hat, another home school, blogging momma. My van got put in the shop and it took them over 3 months to get my van fixed. It meant I couldn’t get to go to Florida, one place I have always wanted to go. I was madder than a wet hen! My momma let us use her car to take the kids to a water park in Philadelphia, Ms. It wasn’t Florida, but we had a time of our life! I'm not sure what our vacation is looking for this year since Dan hasn't had much work and I can't stay away from momma very long, but we are hoping to go back to Philadelphia this year.
My dream vacation would be to take a year to and travel the world!

Oh I hope your dream comes true and then you can both come and visit me! How lucky to win a holiday! And you got to meet a bloggy friend! How cool!

If I win the lotto (which I probably won't coz I never play) I am going to round you all up for a blog friends convention in Sydney! Hey! It's the thought that counts! And you never know, I may come into a big inheritance or something! LOL!

I would love to see the smoky mtns.
My brother and his wife won a weekend there in a condo -- and they were as pleased with their trip as you were.

It's amazing how it is sometimes the unplanned stuff that turns out better than the planned!!

I've never won much, but I have been to the Great Smoky Mountains, and that was as good a winning. I'm glad you were able to turn lemons into lemonade, good for you, and I'm sure you'll be able to meet up with Amy from the foil hat, another time.

Don't feel too bad about not getting to Florida...you didn't miss much!

The Smokies on the other had, are beautiful. I haven't been there in years and really miss it alot.

When I win the lottery, I'll take a year off (maybe even more!) and travel to all the places I've ever wanted to go...a nice dream!

How marvellous to win such a brilliant holiday. I keep saying to embee when he retires I would like to go around the world~ there is only one problem-funding it, but I can dream!

I'm very close to Gatlinburg--about 5 hrs. drive and I love it too, even though it's getting very commercial. Noticed that you said you'd love to travel around the world. Me too. You may enjoy reading Educating Alice and Without Reservations, both by Alice Steinbach--true accounts of her travels all over the world. Have you read Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert? Same idea.

Isn't it funny how sometimes the unplanned is the best? But I hope you get to go to FL like you want.

As or the bulk shopping, DH's favortie store is Costco, but you do have to be very careful. Some things are great deals (here, eggs for instance), but some things are a rip off.

I just went to Gatlinburg in February! We took my mom there for a weekend to celebrate her 60th birthday. I'm fortunate enough to live about 3-4 hours from Gatlinburg. It'a absolutely gorgeous there.

Those sound like wonderful vacations. I would love to do some travelling through the world and it would be so much fun with the kids the age they are. Oh to be rich and not famous.
